Deep Tissue

Unlike classic Swedish massage therapy, which is used for relaxation, deep tissue massage usually focuses on a specific problem such as chronic pain, limited mobility, or recovery from an injury. Massage therapists use their fingers, thumbs, elbows, or feet to apply the needed pressure. It is especially helpful for chronically tense and contracted areas such as stiff necks, low back tightness, and sore shoulders.

In practice, deep tissue massage mostly means a “strong massage.” Due to the nature of this bodywork, open communication during the session is crucial to make sure you don't get too uncomfortable. It’s important to remember that not everything that hurts is therapeutic, but not every therapeutic procedure is painless! Mild discomfort is okay.

Deep Tissue Massage may include these techniques:

  • Myofascial Release

  • Trigger Point Therapy

  • Thai Massage

  • Sarga/ Barefoot massage

  • Heat (to warm the muscles and increase circulation)

  • Analgesics
